For campaigners: How to Make a Great Student Union Campaign

Student union campaigns are just about 2 and a half months away and it's time to turn things a notch higher. Here is an article I came across on wiki.

1.
Make sure you are dedicated and willing to work. People will notice if you back out before Election Day. Check into what the position you're running for actually does and make sure you have enough time in your schedule to devote to the position.

Hang posters up around your school. The "Vote for Le-Yo for Academics" sign that you're planning to post above the drinking fountain doesn't scream confidence, does it? You want to make the student body realize that you are driven and dedicated. How do you do that, you ask? Before you can start anything, you must come up with a few catchy slogan ideas. Have a few different designs in mind for posters before you begin. The best posters are made on the computer. Amazing posters can be made on Microsoft Office Publisher, which is found on almost all computers. Choose a layout that will stand out. There is an option to make the project "Poster size" choose it-the bigger, the better!

Give out something that the voters would like, such as candy, school items, t-shirts, etc. However, do not bribe them- this could lose votes instead of gaining them. Also, try not to spend too much money on items you plan on giving away to other students for free.

Put your posters up as soon as possible. Getting a head start is important. Being the first posters up allows the school to get a good look at your posters without any other wall clutter. Make a few very big and creative posters to post in the cafeteria, gymnasium, and other school hot spots that will get people talking. If people notice your posters, they will remember you on Election Day! Smaller (letter size) posters can be put up all around the school, though.

Take a look at other speeches on the internet to get a general knowledge of what should be in them. Humor is a good tactic, but try to fit some things that actually matter into your speech. When writing, pay attention to the words you use. Would they convince you? Be as persuasive as possible, without bragging. (Instead of saying "I'm a creative person", say "I value creativity). Have a good closing sentence... it is what people will remember.
#
6
Practice your speech everyday before you take a shower. Look in the mirror when you speak and try to emphasize key persuasive words. Memorizing the speech is a good left hook... It screams confidence if you are looking up at the audience the entire time.
#
7
Prepare for the audience to ask questions. Have prepared answers (not written down, though) of how you would respond to these popular questions: Why did you choose to run? What would you do differently if you were elected? Why will you make a good president, vice prez, etc.? also say your name

When running, make sure you can speak in front of an audience. Practice in front of friends, teacher,or family members. When getting votes NEVER say you are better than the other runners, you will appear arrogant, which is never a good way to get votes, Be friendly to everyone, You have to understand you might be their future pres, vice pres, etc. Always have a smile
